Torrential Rains Displace Hundreds at Asante Jamasi

A torrential rainfall has struck Asante Jamasi in the Sekyere South Municipality of the Ashanti Region, destroying more than 17 houses and rendering hundreds of residents homeless.

The downpour also caused extensive damage to the Jamasi Methodist Primary School, where four classrooms were affected, bringing teaching and learning activities to a complete standstill.

Despite the extent of the destruction, no casualties have been recorded. However, affected residents are making urgent appeals to the authorities for immediate assistance.

Some victims, speaking to the media, shared their ordeal and called for support.

“We are now stranded with nowhere to go. All our properties have been destroyed, so we are appealing to the authorities to come to our aid,” Maame Serwaa, one of the victims, lamented.

Meanwhile, the Asante Jamasi NADMO Officer, Madam Juliana Addai, disclosed that about 70 to 80 persons have lost properties valued at approximately GH¢300,000. She added that a report has been prepared and will be forwarded to the Municipal Assembly for prompt action
