15 Passengers Escape Death As Commercial Vehicle Somersaults

Fifteen passengers have narrowly escaped death after a commercial vehicle they were travelling in somersaulted on the Abuakwa-Bibiani highway in the Ashanti Region.

The accident occurred when a speeding private car, with registration number AS-9174-20, reportedly crashed into the fully loaded trotro, registered AS-4441-W.

The force of the collision caused the trotro to overturn and somersault on the highway, leaving several passengers with various degrees of injuries.

Eyewitnesses said residents in the area immediately rushed to the scene and helped turn the vehicle back onto its tyres before assisting the injured passengers.

Fortunately, no fatalities were recorded.

However, one of the victims, who reportedly sustained serious spinal cord injuries, was transferred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi for further treatment.

The other injured passengers were taken to the Abuakwa Polyclinic, where they received medical attention.

The police have since visited the scene and commenced investigations into the accident.

Motorists have meanwhile been urged to exercise caution, avoid speeding and adhere to road safety regulations to prevent similar crashes.
