Fidelity Bank Donates GH¢50,000 to Support GJA Ashanti Press Centre Project

Fidelity Bank Ghana has donated GH¢50,000 to the Ashanti Regional Branch of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) to support the construction of a permanent press centre in the region.

The cheque was presented on Thursday, February 5, 2026, during a one-day financial sector training programme for journalists organised by Fidelity Bank.

Presenting the cheque, the Managing Director of Fidelity Bank, Julian Opuni, said the donation was in response to a request from the GJA and in line with the bank’s commitment to support media development.

“We received a request from the GJA, and as part of our pledge to support, we are donating GH¢50,000 towards the press centre project,” he said.

He added that Fidelity Bank values the role journalists play in national development, not only in the Ashanti Region but across the country.

Receiving the cheque on behalf of the association, Kofi Adu Domfeh, Chairman of the Ashanti Regional Branch of the GJA, expressed deep appreciation to Fidelity Bank for the timely support.

He also commended the immediate past executives of the association for initiating the press centre project, noting that the current leadership had inherited the vision.

“We want to thank Fidelity Bank and also appreciate our predecessors who began this project. This building project has been very close to the hearts of journalists in the Ashanti Region,” he said.

Mr. Domfeh explained that the association previously lost the land earmarked for the project but was later able to secure a new site through the intervention of His Royal Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

“We lost the land some time ago, but fortunately, through the intervention of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, we have been granted a new facility,” he noted.

He said since assuming office, the new executives had been carefully considering how to develop the project, describing Fidelity Bank’s donation as a major boost.

“As new executives, we have been thinking through how to develop this project, and this gesture by Fidelity Bank has come at a great time. They have set the pace for this project,” he stated.

Mr. Domfeh assured that the funds would be used judiciously and pledged that Fidelity Bank’s support would be permanently acknowledged at the press centre.

“We truly appreciate this gesture, and we promise that the donation will be put to good use. Fidelity Bank’s name will be written in gold at the press centre,” he added.

The proposed press centre is expected to provide a dedicated professional space for journalists in the Ashanti Region, serving as a hub for media engagements, training, and collaboration.
