Obuasi MCE Launches Nkoko Nketekete Programme, 10,000 Broiler Birds Distributed to 200 Beneficiaries

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the Obuasi Municipal Assembly, Hon. Faustilove Appiah Kannin, has officially launched the Nkoko Nketekete Programme under the government’s Feed Ghana Programme, aimed at boosting poultry production and improving livelihoods in the Municipality.

Under the initiative, a total of 200 beneficiaries are expected to benefit directly, with the Obuasi Municipality receiving 10,000 broiler birds. Each selected beneficiary will receive 50 birds to support the establishment or expansion of small-scale poultry businesses.

The launch ceremony, held at the forecourt of the Obuasi Municipal Assembly, marked the commencement of the distribution exercise, which the MCE said would be completed within five days. Hon. Faustilove Appiah Kannin stressed that the selection of beneficiaries was done without political considerations.

“This is a government policy meant to benefit all citizens. The selection of beneficiaries was therefore conducted on a non-partisan basis,” she explained.

The MCE further announced that the next phase of the programme would introduce layer birds into the Municipality, urging beneficiaries to fully utilise the opportunity to build sustainable poultry enterprises. She noted that the successful implementation of the programme would help make poultry products more accessible and affordable for residents of Obuasi.

Hon. Faustilove expressed gratitude to the President and the government for the intervention and cautioned beneficiaries to take the project seriously.

“Do not disappoint the government. Take this project seriously and ensure its success,” she urged.

Prior to the distribution of the birds, beneficiaries underwent a one-day capacity-building workshop to equip them with basic poultry management skills. Officials from the Municipal Department of Agriculture also disclosed that Agricultural Extension Officers would be deployed across various zones to provide technical support and monitor the progress of the birds to ensure the success of the programme.

The ceremony was attended by the Municipal Coordinating Director, Madam Joyce Akosua Angmorteh, the Presiding Member of the Assembly, Hon. James Adabour, Assembly Members, and staff of the Obuasi Municipal Assembly.
