Gospel Music Legend Yaw Sarpong Passes On

Ghana’s gospel music fraternity has been thrown into deep mourning following the reported death of legendary gospel musician Yaw Sarpong, leader and founder of the renowned Asomafo Band.

According to close family sources, the celebrated musician passed away in the early hours of today after battling a prolonged illness. His demise marks the end of an illustrious career that spanned several decades and left an indelible mark on gospel music in Ghana and beyond.

Yaw Sarpong was widely regarded as one of the pioneers who shaped contemporary Ghanaian gospel music. Through the Asomafo Band, he nurtured and introduced many talents who later became household names in the industry. His music, characterized by deep spiritual messages, rich harmonies and strong traditional influences, ministered to countless listeners and worshippers across the country.
