Obuasi Municipal Assembly Unveils Monthly Journal to Boost Transparency

The Obuasi Municipal Assembly has launched a monthly journal, Obuasi This Month, aimed at enhancing transparency, accountability and effective communication between the Assembly and residents of the municipality.
Speaking at the launch, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Obuasi, Mrs Faustilove Appiah Kannin, described the initiative as “a bold step towards fulfilling the mandate of transparency and accountability as stipulated in the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936).”
She assured residents that the journal would provide accurate, verified and reliable information, highlighting the Assembly’s achievements, challenges and future plans.
According to the MCE, although the Assembly has implemented numerous projects and programmes in education, health, sanitation, roads and youth development over the years, inadequate communication has often left citizens unaware of the progress being made.
“With the introduction of Obuasi This Month, we will bridge this communication gap. It will serve as a monthly window into the Assembly’s activities,” she explained.
Mrs Appiah Kannin noted that the publication would also highlight the contributions of partners, government agencies, traditional authorities, private sector players and civil society organisations to the development of Obuasi.
She stressed the importance of effective communication in governance, stating, “Development without communication is like a body without a soul. No matter how good our policies and programmes may be, if the people do not understand them, they cannot be supported or sustained.”
She added that in the digital age, misinformation spreads rapidly, making it imperative for public institutions to provide credible information to guide public understanding.
“This journal will complement the work of our website by providing accurate, verified and reliable information to the public,” she said.
The MCE called on stakeholders, including the media, heads of departments and units within the Assembly, to support the initiative to ensure its success. She also commended the Information Services Department and the Technical Team for initiating and coordinating the project.
Representing the Dompoasehene, Okofo Kwabena Bonsu, Nana Kweku Ponkoh III, Chief of Kunka, urged the MCE to remain transparent and accountable to the people of Obuasi, while prioritising the development of the municipality.
The launch of Obuasi This Month marks a new chapter in promoting transparency and accountability within the Obuasi Municipal Assembly. The journal is expected to serve as a credible source of information that reflects realities on the ground, celebrates achievements and identifies areas requiring improvement.
The event was attended by stakeholders, invited guests and members of the media.
