Bibiani–Anhwiaso–Bekwai Takes Centre Stage as GACC Engages Youth in 2025 Anti-Corruption Day Activities

The Bibiani–Anhwiaso–Bekwai Municipality became a major focal point of this year’s International Anti-Corruption Day (IACD) as the Ghana Anti-Corruption Coalition (GACC) and the Local Accountability Network (LANet) spearheaded impactful youth engagements at Lineso and Basengele, empowering students with practical knowledge on corruption prevention and integrity building.

The activities formed part of the nationwide commemoration held on Monday, December 9, under the global theme: “Uniting with Youth Against Corruption: Shaping Tomorrow’s Integrity.” The municipality’s events featured interactive sessions that exposed students to the various manifestations of corruption, including fraud, favouritism, bribery, nepotism, embezzlement, and conflict of interest.

Facilitators also encouraged the use of emerging technologies—such as artificial intelligence and blockchain—as innovative tools to detect, prevent, and expose corruption, emphasizing the need for proper safeguards. The civic mantra “See Something, Say Something” was strongly echoed to inspire a culture of vigilance among young people.

The 2025 commemoration placed national attention on empowering young people to become integrity champions by equipping them with knowledge on responsible citizenship, whistleblowing, and transparency. GACC used both community-based and digital platforms to encourage youth across the country to Resist, Reject, and Report corruption.

Concerned about the growing threat corruption poses to national stability, democratic values, and sustainable development, GACC significantly expanded its outreach this year. Building on the 2024 campaign—which sensitised nearly 50,000 youth in 34 districts—the coalition extended its coverage to 87 districts across all 16 regions in 2025 to strengthen civic action and amplify youth voices in governance accountability.

The 2025 International Anti-Corruption Day activities were supported by the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation and the PAIReD Programme, implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH. The programme is commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and co-financed by the European Union (EU) and the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO).

The active involvement of Mr. Eric Ntiamoah Boateng, Municipal Director of CHRAJ; Hon. Collins Berchie, Chairman of Bibiani LANet; Nana Ago-Saah, Sanaahemaa of the Anhwiaso Traditional Area; Deborah Tachie Ankrah, Project Officer at Codesult Network, Bibiani; as well as staff of the participating schools, underscored the importance the municipality placed on the global anti-corruption campaign.
