Mpasatia SDA Church Holds Maiden Homecoming With Call to “Arise and Build”

The Mpasatia Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) Church has ushered in a new era of renewal and unity as it celebrated its maiden Homecoming event on Saturday, December 6, drawing members, visitors, and sister congregations to its premises in the Atwima Mponua District of the Ashanti Region.

Held on the theme “Arise and Build” from Nehemiah 2:1–18, the celebration coincided with the church’s annual harvest organised to support the ongoing church building project. The occasion also featured a special prayer session for leaders elected earlier to serve a two-year term.
Sister congregations from Wioso, Anwiafutu, Adiembra, Bedabour, and Toase joined in the colourful event, demonstrating unity and solidarity within the SDA family.

The Assembly Member for the Mpasatia Electoral Area, Karim Salifu, who represented the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Atwima Mponua, Issahaq Ibrahim, commended the church for its developmental contributions to the community and the district. He donated an undisclosed amount of money on behalf of the DCE and himself to support the celebration.

Sermon Highlights: A Call to Return and Build
Preaching on the day, (Rtd) Pastor Isaac Sarfo delivered a compelling message on the theme, offering a detailed narrative of Nehemiah’s mission and urging members to develop what he described as a “homing instinct.”
He defined the homing instinct as “an innate ability in animals to find their way back home across long distances or unfamiliar territories using cues such as the sun, stars, scent, or magnetic fields.” He cited salmon, dogs, cats, swans, pigeons, sea turtles, and other creatures that never fail to return home.

Pastor Sarfo emphasized that if animals could display such loyalty to their homes, humans—crafted in God’s image—must demonstrate an even deeper commitment to their spiritual home.
He encouraged the congregation to hold the church dear to their hearts and support its completion, noting that the church remains one of the greatest gifts Christ left humanity.
“As stewards of the church, you must protect and care for it so that when Christ returns, He will find it as He entrusted it to us,” he urged.
He further reminded members that, just as Nehemiah encountered Tobiah and Sanballat, they too may face discouragement or opposition as they build. But he encouraged them to remain resolute and focused on the mission.

Pastor Sarfo expressed confidence that the freewill contributions of members and supporters would lead to the successful completion of the project, adding that the dedication ceremony would serve as a powerful testimony.
Chairman’s Message: Embrace Wherever You Are Sent
The chairman of the occasion, Elder Kwaku Fori, popularly known as Augustine Manu, used his acceptance remarks to encourage members to honour and embrace new places they are assigned to, whether for work, ministry, or community service.
He expressed concern about the growing reluctance among people—especially the youth—when they are posted to areas outside their familiar environments.
Elder Fori, a native of Wenchi in the Ahafo Region, shared his own experience, revealing that he has lived in Mpasatia since 1979, when he was first posted there to work. His testimony, he said, is proof that blessings often lie in the places God or duty sends individuals, not only in their comfort zones.

Church Background
Founded in 1954 as a company church with an initial membership of eleven, the Mpasatia SDA Church was the first Adventist congregation established in the Nkawie–Toase District. The church now boasts a modern building with a 400-seat capacity, 126 baptized members, and 123 children forming part of its growing family.

A Renewed Commitment to Build
The maiden Homecoming ended with renewed enthusiasm as members pledged to contribute to the growth of the church, responding to the united call to “Arise and Build” with dedication, unity, and purpose.
