Military Officer with NAIMOS Dies in Accident; Four Others in Critical Condition
A military officer with the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) has been confirmed dead after the team’s vehicle was involved in a tragic accident.
Four other officers, reported to be in critical condition, were initially rushed to the Obuasi Government Hospital before being referred to the Anglogold Ashanti Hospital for advanced treatment.
The accident occurred late Wednesday while the team was returning to Obuasi after an operation at a concession in Anyankyerim, an area recently overrun by illegal miners.
Eyewitnesses say the vehicle somersaulted along the stretch between the Anyankyerim community and Airport Road.
The concession, owned by Mining and Construction Services Limited, has been at the centre of controversy following an invasion by illegal miners who claim the land was allocated to them by the previous NDC administration.
Citi News checks reveal that the miners are receiving backing from influential political figures. Notably, the NDC Vice Chairman for the Obuasi West Constituency, Alhaji Zamba, has publicly asserted ownership of the concession in a video circulating on social media.
