Kwame Poku Sidelined for Six Weeks After Ankle Injury

Asante Kotoko have been dealt a major setback after diminutive striker Kwame Poku was ruled out for four to six weeks with an ankle injury.
The 23-year-old forward limped off after just 20 minutes during Kotoko’s Ghana Premier League clash with Berekum Chelsea at the Golden City Park over the weekend. Despite his absence, the Porcupine Warriors managed a hard-fought 1-0 victory, with Albert Amoah netting the decisive goal in the 69th minute to end Kotoko’s 15-year winless run at the venue.
Medical scans conducted after the game confirmed that Poku, formerly of Eleven Wonders, suffered an ankle injury that will require a lengthy recovery period. His absence will see him miss several key fixtures, including Kotoko’s crucial CAF Confederation Cup showdown against Kwara United of Nigeria at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, September 21, 2025, as well as the return leg in Ilorin.
The injury is a significant blow to Kotoko’s attacking strength, as the reigning FA Cup champions prepare for both domestic and continental challenges in the 2025/26 season.
