Ashanti Regional Security Council Bans Night Motorbike Use, Suspends Football Tournament After Violent Clashes

The Ashanti Regional Security Council (REGSEC) has rolled out a series of stringent measures aimed at restoring calm and safeguarding residents following recent violent incidents in the region.
In a statement signed by the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, REGSEC announced that, effective immediately, the use of motorbikes on all roads in the region after 7:00 p.m. has been banned until further notice. The directive also strictly prohibits the use of unlicensed motorbikes and those without functioning lights.
As part of broader security interventions, REGSEC has suspended the ongoing inter-tribal football competition, citing concerns that such gatherings could escalate tensions. Additionally, motorbike riders have been barred from wearing smocks, an attire believed to be capable of concealing weapons.
Dr. Amoakohene assured residents of an increased security presence across identified hotspot areas. He revealed that joint teams of police and military personnel have been deployed to maintain law and order, protect lives and property, and prevent further clashes.
“The government remains unwavering in its commitment to ensuring peace and security. Every necessary measure is being implemented to apprehend those behind this heinous act and bring them to justice,” Dr. Amoakohene emphasized.
The Regional Minister further appealed to the public to remain calm and cooperate with the security agencies. He urged residents to volunteer credible information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects, assuring that the security services are ready to receive tips and intelligence to aid ongoing investigations.
REGSEC reiterated its mandate to serve and protect the people of the Ashanti Region, calling on all stakeholders to support the council’s efforts in restoring peace and stability.
