KMA to slaughter stray cattle for inmates of Kumasi Central Prisons

Beginning from May 1, 2025, any stray cattle and other livestocks found in the vicinity of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), will be butchered and hand over to the authorities at the Kumasi Central Prisons to feed the inmates.
The Mayor of Kumasi, Richard Ofori Agyemang, alias King Zuba, issued this stern warning on Monday, April 14 when he was addressing the media at the conference hall of the KMA.
The Kumasi Mayor urged cattle owners to keep their livestocks of the streets of his jurisdiction or face the grave repercussions.
King Zuba emphasized his commitment to improving the city’s appearance and sanitation, vowing to ensure that the Garden City of West Africa which the city was once called will resurrect.
The Mayor expressed gross concern about the area from the Kumasi Airport to Manhyia, the seat of the overlord of the Asante Kingdom, His Royal Majesty Osei Tutu III, where visitors are often welcomed by faces of stray cattle and other livestocks.
“I cannot sit here and let visitors get to this magnificent airport and when they are driving to Manhyia all that they encounter is faeces from cattle. This is unacceptable and so if you are cattle owner keep notice of this.
From the 1st of May, we will start arresting stray cattle within the domain of the KMA and I will make sure that once we catch any cattle, it will go to the Kumasi Central Prisons to feed the inmates.
The Mayor explicated that this punitive measure is necessary to prevent visitors from having a poor impression of the city, emphasizing that the sight of stray cattle is unacceptable, especially near the airport.
He linked this drastic policy to his broader goal of creating a more disciplined and tidy Kumasi.
In another development, King Zuba also hinted of cracking the whips of recalcitrant traders and hawkers who ply their trades on the pavement along the dual carriage roads at the Kumasi Business District ( CBD) by using his ‘ten men’ to whip any indiscipline traders who fail to adhere to his orders.
” I am not going to you the police to arrest them (traders) because when you arrest them, they go to the police station and find their own means, and they are back on the street. That is a waste of time and resources for me, so I have my own way of democratic military style, which I will implement. When we say leave this way and you do not leave this place and I get there and you are not lucky and my boys are with me there and then we will beat you,” he noted.
He continued, “this is Otumfuo’s land. This is Asantehene’s land and the Garden City of West Africa. We have to preserve its image, and I am here to work and to satisfy the city for Otumfuo. I want to ensure that this city looks like Otumfuo city,” he stressed.
“When the guys say leave the middle of the road, leave before they get you, and I am saying that the time period of two weeks that I am giving, they should adhere to this simple instruction.
I won’t to confiscate any goods , I won’t report it to the police, we will catch you there if it is ten lashes that you deserve we give it to you. I wish people don’t push me to that level, but if you push me there, you will feel it there,” he warned.
He explained that his actions are all aimed at making sure that there is disciplined and sanitised city for all the residents.
