Five Dead, Several Injured in Kona Highway Crash

A fatal road accident on the Agona–Tano Dumase highway late Thursday night has left five people dead and several others injured after a VIP Jeoun bus collided head-on with a Toyota Yaris private car.

The incident, which occurred around 11:45 p.m. on October 9, 2025, happened near Kona in the Sekyere South District of the Ashanti Region. Eyewitnesses say the VIP bus, which was travelling from Yeji to Kade, attempted to overtake another vehicle at top speed and crashed into the oncoming Toyota car travelling from Kona to Tano Dumase.

The impact of the collision was devastating, completely mangling the Toyota and killing all five occupants on board instantly. According to eyewitnesses, the Toyota driver, believed to be a pastor, was returning home from an evening church service with some of his members when the accident occurred.

Images from the accident scene showed the red Toyota with a crushed roof, shattered windows, and debris scattered along the highway. The front and upper portions of the VIP bus also sustained major damage, leaving several passengers injured.

Police arrived at the scene shortly after the crash but were unable to begin rescue operations immediately, forcing stranded passengers on the VIP bus to wait for assistance.

The bodies of the deceased have since been deposited at the morgue, while the injured are receiving treatment at a nearby hospital.

Meanwhile, the police have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the fatal crash.
