Five Injured As Three Vehicles Crash At Konongo

Five people escaped death but sustained injuries after a fuel tanker, a truck, and a taxi were involved in a collision at Konongo Lady Diana in the Ashanti Region on Saturday, June 13, 2026.
The accident involved a MAN diesel tanker with registration number GN 4470-22 carrying 54,000 litres of diesel, a DAF XF truck (GN 1591-20), and a Toyota Matiz taxi (SE 6425-14).
Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) at the Konongo Fire Station, led by Leading Fireman (LFM) Siale Richard, rushed to the scene after receiving a distress call at about 3:36 p.m.
According to the GNFS, firefighters arrived at the scene within minutes and joined efforts to rescue victims trapped in the wreckage.
Three men and two women sustained various degrees of injuries in the crash. Four of the victims had already been transported to Steward Hospital before firefighters arrived, while the remaining victim was rescued by the crew and conveyed to the same facility in a Police pickup vehicle.
Although the cause of the accident is yet to be established, the impact left the vehicles badly damaged. The front portion of the diesel tanker was extensively damaged, the DAF truck suffered partial damage, while the taxi was completely wrecked.
Despite the severity of the crash, no deaths were recorded.
Firefighters also averted a possible disaster by successfully salvaging all 54,000 litres of diesel from the tanker and deploying foam concentrate to prevent any fire outbreak or environmental contamination.
The Ghana National Fire Service commended officers of the Konongo Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) for supporting rescue efforts and helping to manage traffic at the accident scene.
Investigations are underway to determine the exact cause of the crash.
