Military Officer In Custody Over Engineer’s Death

The Akropong District Court in the Atwima Nwabiagya North District of the Ashanti Region has further remanded a 27-year-old military officer accused of murdering a civil engineer at the Ghana Armed Forces Central Command Headquarters in Kumasi.

Private Nsarkoh Christopher Nkyinkyi, who is standing trial for the alleged murder of 29-year-old civil engineer Jeffrey Boakye Danquah, is to remain in police custody as investigations into the incident continue.

Presiding Judge, His Lordship Emmanuel Wiafe Adu, maintained the murder charge against the accused and adjourned the case to June 22, 2026.

According to police prosecutors, the tragic incident occurred following a misunderstanding between the soldier and the deceased at the military facility.

The prosecution told the court that Private Nkyinkyi allegedly fired a round from an M16 rifle at close range into the chest of Jeffrey Boakye Danquah. The bullet reportedly exited through the victim’s back, causing fatal injuries.

The court was informed that investigations are still ongoing, necessitating the adjournment of the case.

Speaking to journalists after proceedings, the prosecutor and Crime Officer at the Suntreso Police District Command, ASP Jonas Newlove Adjei, welcomed the court’s decision and expressed confidence that ongoing investigations would establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

He stressed that investigators are committed to uncovering all the facts to ensure justice is served.

The case has generated significant public interest due to the circumstances of the alleged shooting, which occurred within a military installation in Kumasi.

The accused is expected to reappear before the court on June 22, 2026.
