Police Foil Robbery Plot, Recover Weapons In Ahafo Operation

The Ghana Police Service has foiled a planned robbery operation and recovered firearms and other items linked to a suspected robbery syndicate during an intelligence-led operation in the Ahafo Region.
The operation, conducted by the Surveillance Unit of the National Operations Department in collaboration with the Ashanti North Regional Police Command, targeted 23-year-old Ali Mohammed, a wanted robbery suspect linked to several violent crimes.
Police said Mohammed was arrested at Kukuom on June 2, 2026, after intelligence suggested he was planning another robbery attack.
According to the police, the suspect was wanted for the fatal shooting of Dominic Frimpong on the Akyiresu–Kwame Dwomo Sreso road on April 12, 2026. He was also being pursued in connection with two robbery attacks at Bosomkyekye on the Mampong–Ejura road in July 2025 and February 2026, one of which resulted in the death of a driver’s mate.
During the operation, Mohammed allegedly opened fire on the police with an AK-47 rifle. Officers returned fire, injuring the suspect.
He was rushed to the Goaso Government Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
A search conducted after the operation led to the recovery of an AK-47 rifle, a pump-action shotgun, two AK-47 magazines, nine rounds of ammunition, three mobile phones, a motorbike ignition key, a black face mask, four talismans and a sack.
Police say investigations are ongoing and efforts are underway to arrest other members of the suspected robbery syndicate.
The wanted suspects have been identified as Omar Chad, Dauda Tahidu, Suley and other accomplices who remain at large.
The police say the operation forms part of ongoing efforts to combat armed robbery and violent crime across the Ashanti and Ahafo regions.
