Obuasi MCE Praised As AshGold 04 Revives Football Hope

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Obuasi, Hon. Faustilove Appiah Kannin, has received widespread commendation from football fans and residents for her role in helping revive competitive football in the municipality following the successful campaign of AshGold 04.

The praises came after AshGold 04 defeated King Faisal 1-0 in their final Division One League Zone Two coronation match played at the Len Clay Stadium on Sunday.

A dramatic 90th-minute goal secured victory for the home side and sent thousands of supporters into jubilant celebrations.

The excitement surrounding AshGold 04’s success has reignited football passion in Obuasi, a town historically known for its strong football tradition through the former Premier League side, AshGold Sporting Club.

AshGold, once one of Ghana’s most successful football clubs, was demoted from the Ghana Premier League to Division Two after being found guilty in connection with a match-fixing case involving Elmina Sharks.

Following the club’s setback, football lovers in Obuasi have long yearned for the return of elite football to the mining town.

Many supporters at Sunday’s coronation match openly praised Hon. Faustilove Appiah Kannin for supporting efforts aimed at restoring the municipality’s football glory.

Some fans described the achievement of AshGold 04 as a new beginning for football in Obuasi and expressed optimism that the municipality could soon witness a return to Premier League football.

The match attracted several dignitaries from the traditional, political and religious circles.

Traditional authorities present included Nana Okofo Kwabena Bonsu II, Nana Serwaa Bruwaa and several Odikros from communities within Obuasi.

Also in attendance were the MCE for Obuasi East Municipal, Hon. William Kofi Adzewo, the District Chief Executive for Akrofuom District, and businessman Mr. Eugene Amankwa of EugeMart Consult.

The Adansi Chief Imam and other religious leaders also joined the celebrations.

Before kickoff, popular Ghanaian highlife musician KK Fosu entertained supporters with some of his hit songs.

Fans also kept the atmosphere lively throughout the match with coordinated jama songs and chants as they rallied behind the home side.

Residents believe the resurgence of football in Obuasi will not only restore community pride but also help stimulate economic activities in the municipality.
