Two Injured As Fire Ravages Compound House At Manso Wahaso

Two persons sustained injuries after a fire outbreak razed a compound house and a provision store at Manso Wahaso in the Amansie area of the Ashanti Region.

The incident happened around 5:30pm on Saturday, May 17, 2026, near the Wahaso Community Center.

The fire destroyed the entire compound house occupied by 15 tenants, including nine male adults, three female adults, two boys and a girl.

A provision store operating from a container on the premises was also completely burnt.

According to a situational report by the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), preliminary investigations suggest the fire started during maintenance works on a water pump.

The report explained that workers were moving a machine containing petrol close to a cooking area being used by a food vendor and shop owner known as Sister Cynthia when petrol spilled and came into contact with fire, igniting the blaze.

Properties, goods and cash estimated at GH¢600,000 were destroyed, while the building was estimated to have suffered damage worth GH¢400,000.

Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service, NADMO officials, the Assembly Member for the Achiase Electoral Area and residents joined efforts to bring the fire under control.

The report, signed by Simon Arthur, Deputy District Director for Technical at NADMO, indicated that no death was recorded despite the extensive destruction caused by the fire.
