Housemaster Suspended Over Alleged Curse on Students at Nkenkenso SHS

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has suspended Mr. Akwasi Opoku, widely known as “Striker,” from his position as Senior Housemaster of Nkenkenso Senior High School (NKESHS), following allegations that he invoked a curse on three students.

The controversy reportedly began after the students allegedly circulated rumours linking Mr. Opoku to the death of a teacher who died in a motor accident after an alleged altercation. The matter escalated when the students were reportedly confronted and brought before the housemaster.

Sources indicate that Mr. Opoku allegedly pronounced a curse on the students. It was further claimed that his mother, said to be a chief priest, performed rituals connected to the incident. Reports suggest that the housemaster demanded GH¢1,000 from each of the students to reverse the curse, which was later lifted at a total cost exceeding GH¢3,000.

Initial attempts by the school’s headmaster and the District Director of Education to resolve the issue reportedly failed, leading to the involvement of higher authorities.

In a statement dated February 24, 2026, the school’s management described Mr. Opoku’s actions as unprofessional and damaging to the reputation of both the institution and the GES.

He has been directed to step aside from his role as Senior Housemaster and to hand over all school property and official documents in his possession to the Assistant Headmaster with immediate effect.

The GES has commenced investigations into the matter and is expected to determine the appropriate disciplinary measures upon conclusion of its probe.

The incident has stirred public concern, raising questions about professional conduct in schools and the safety and well-being of students.
