Offinso Old Town Residents Call for Street Lights After Fatal Highway Crash

Residents of Offinso Old Town in the Ashanti Region have appealed for the immediate installation of street lights, road signs and clear road markings on the Offinso–Aboffuo highway following a recent fatal accident on the stretch.

The call follows a deadly collision on the main bridge linking Ahenkro and Offinso, where a trailer reportedly rammed into a mini truck, killing three people.

Speaking to Swiftnews3 Online on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, residents blamed the frequent accidents along the highway on poor visibility caused by the absence of street lighting, warning signs and road markings, particularly between Ahenkro and Offinso Old Town.

According to them, the section around the Offin River has become a major danger zone, especially at night, due to the darkness on the road.

“That particular area where the Offin River is located records dangerous accidents almost all the time because it is very dark,” said Mr. Oteng, a commercial driver who plies the route regularly.

“We strongly believe that installing street lights, together with proper road signs and markings, will improve visibility and significantly reduce accidents on this road,” he added.

The residents are therefore appealing to the appropriate authorities, especially the Ghana Highway Authority, to urgently address the situation to prevent further loss of lives on the highway.
