Trailer Runs Over Okada Rider at Suame Maakro

A tragic road accident has claimed the life of an okada rider at Suame Maakro in the Suame Municipality of the Ashanti Region.
The incident, which occurred on Saturday afternoon, December 3, 2026, involved a trailer loaded with soya beans. The deceased, believed to be in his late 20s, died instantly. His identity is yet to be established.
Eyewitnesses said the trailer, with registration number GT-1963-13, was moving alongside the motorcycle when a hook attached to the vehicle accidentally trapped the rider, dragging him under the truck.
The accident drew a large crowd to the scene, with residents expressing shock and anger over what they described as the increasing rate of accidents on the stretch.
Some residents blamed the situation on ongoing road construction works, which they say have made the road narrow and difficult to navigate.
“This is not the first accident here. We have seen several crashes, but this is the first time someone has died,” a resident told Swiftnews3 Online. “The road is very bad because of the construction, and it’s putting lives at risk.”
Police officers later arrived at the scene and conveyed the body to a morgue for preservation and identification, while investigations into the cause of the accident are underway.
