Ten Arrested Over Fake Online Food Delivery Scam

Ten people have been arrested by the Ghana Police Service for allegedly running a sophisticated online scam that defrauded unsuspecting customers through fake food delivery platforms.
According to the Police, the suspects created fraudulent websites and social media accounts that mimicked well-known food brands, including Papaye, Pizzaman, KFC, and Mawarko. Victims who attempted to order food through these platforms were tricked into making mobile money payments in advance but never received their orders.
The arrests were made by the Cybercrime Unit of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) in two separate operations in Sogakope and Accra.
The first operation, carried out on October 1, 2025, in Sogakope, led to the arrest of six suspects — Wonder Sakpiti, Sedinam Amaglo, Godsway Dunyo, Angela Agblemekpe, Mathew Aheto, and Fafali Amoah. Investigations revealed that the group was behind the creation and management of fake online pages designed to deceive customers into sending money.
Further police intelligence led to a follow-up operation on October 12, 2025, at Haatso in Accra, where four more suspects — Elijah Sotama Etse, alias Pop Smoke (believed to be the leader of the syndicate), Elliot Sotama Atsu, Jethro Atsu, and Obed Selasi Agboli — were apprehended.
The Police say the suspects not only collected advance payments from victims but, in some cases, also gained unauthorized access to their mobile money and bank accounts, stealing additional funds under the guise of helping with payment challenges.
Twelve mobile phones and other digital devices believed to have been used in the criminal operations have been retrieved and are undergoing forensic examination.
All ten suspects are currently in police custody and are expected to be arraigned before court.
In a statement, the Ghana Police Service urged the public to be cautious when making online transactions and report any suspicious activity or previous victimization to the nearest police station to support ongoing investigations.
