Abronye DC Granted GH¢50,000 Bail After Arrest Over ‘Inflammatory’ Comments

The Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, has been granted bail by a court in the sum of GH¢50,000 with one surety.
His lawyer, Daniel Mantey Addo, confirmed the ruling, describing it as timely given Abronye’s declining health. “The decision is a relief to both his family and the legal team. We are working swiftly to meet the bail conditions,” he told reporters after proceedings.
The outspoken party chairman was arrested on September 8, 2025, after police accused him of offensive conduct conducive to a breach of public peace. His arrest was linked to public statements in which he made allegations against the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and the government — remarks authorities considered capable of sparking unrest.
Interestingly, just days before his arrest, Abronye lodged asylum applications in eight countries — Côte d’Ivoire, the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Italy, Canada, Spain, and Germany. In those petitions, he claimed he was facing political persecution, threats to his life, and what he described as an abuse of state security powers by the administration.
The development has stirred debate in political circles, with many waiting to see how the courts, as well as the foreign missions he petitioned, respond to his claims.
