Kotokuom Bridge Commissioned After Major Refurbishment

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Atwima Mponua, Hon. Ibrahim Issahak, together with the Deputy Minister for Roads and Highways, Hon. Alhassan Suhuyini, and the Ashanti Regional Minister, Hon. Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has officially commissioned the newly refurbished Kotokuom Bridge at a colourful ceremony held at the Kotokuom R/C Park on Tuesday, August 26, 2025.
The commissioning attracted traditional leaders, government officials, Assembly members, and residents who had long awaited the completion of the project.
In his remarks, Hon. Issahak described the day as a significant milestone for the district, noting that the bridge project was born out of collective efforts that began during the 2024 election campaign period.
He explained that the old bridge, which spanned the Offin River, had become a death trap, causing frequent accidents and restricting the movement of farmers, traders, and cocoa transporters. “With the bridge out of use, many livelihoods suffered as heavy-duty vehicles were not permitted to cross. This slowed down cocoa buying and other business activities,” he recalled.
Hon. Issahak commended President John Dramani Mahama and the government for responding to the urgent need, adding that the refurbished bridge would greatly enhance connectivity, facilitate trade, improve access to health and education services, and open up new economic opportunities.
He further urged residents to take ownership of the infrastructure by ensuring its maintenance. “Let us work together to safeguard this investment and build a prosperous and developed district,” he said.
The DCE also expressed gratitude to the Minister for Roads and Highways, Hon. Kwame Agbodza, the Deputy Minister, the Regional Minister, Assembly members, traditional authorities, and NDC executives for their contributions and unflinching support toward the development of Atwima Mponua.
The commissioning of the Kotokuom Bridge is expected to ease transportation challenges, improve the movement of goods and services, and strengthen economic activities across the Atwima Mponua District and beyond.
