Dunkwahene installs new Nifahene

The Dunkwahene, Okoforubour Obeng Nuako III has installed a new “Nifahene” for the Dunkwa Traditional Area, in the Upper Denkyira East Municipality of the Central Region, to enhance the developmental growth as well as the fight against illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey in the local parlance.
The newly installed Nifahene, Nana Mensah Aninin, is also the new chief of Accra Town, a community in the Dunkwa Traditional Area.
The swearing-in ceremony coincided with the observation of the first “Akwasidae” of the second-quarter of the year, last Sunday.
Okoforubour Nuako II, advised the new Nifahene to be courageous and candid during his reign as well as protect and continue the positive legacies of his forebearers, urging him to involve his elders in decision making and also be respectful towards them as well as his subjects.
The overlord of Dunkwa, also urged Nana Aninin to be circumspect in his dealing in his capacity as Dunkwa Nifahene, and also help in the developmental growth of the Dunkwa Traditional Area, as well as its elevation.
Nana Mensah Aninim thanked the Almighty God and Dunkwahene for honouring him as the Nifahene, urging his elders and subjects to rally behind him to facilitate the development of the Dunkwa enclave as well as elevating it to an enviable status.
Nana Aninin advised the youth in the area to abstain from drugs, such as opioids, popularly known as “red” and lead a good life that will positively enhance the development of Dunkwa Traditional Area.
The new Nifahene of Dunkwa-On-Offin, also suggested to the Ghana Police administration to often transfer personnel, in every four years, to prevent personnel from fraternising with members of the community in which they are stationed, to facilitate them to work efficiently and effectively without any fear or favour.
Nana Mensah Annin, also advocated for government and chiefs collaboration in the fight against the illegal mining and drugs abuse in the country especially amongst the youth.
He.posited that, the government alone cannot fight the canker with the involvement of Chiefs and other stakeholders in the society, and that if the fight is left in the hands of the government we can not go anywhere as a country in eleminating or even reduce the canker.
Speaking to the media after hus swearing-in, he pledged his commitment to bringing discipline into the youth to sanitize the society from immorality and to help check the illegal activities amongst them, promising to bring any perpetrators to book.
In his view, the reason why the government alone can not fight the illicit drugs and illegal mining is that the drugs pass through various ports which government has oversight responsibility to ensure that they are not entered into the country, yet those responsible to act look unconcerned for the reason they only know and allowe them into the country.
He added that the most disturbing among the fight against the illegal mining and Illicit drugs is because our security system has been turned into NPP and NDC and that the problems we are facing as a country can be attributed to the two main political parties.
He reiterated that until these two parties stop politicizing the security sector and collaborate with the chiefs, the fight against the drugs abuse and the illegal mining especially in our Forest Reserves and Water bodies cannot be succeeded.
