Inferno razes Asawase Pelele, hundreds rendered homeless

Hundreds of residents at Asawase Pelele in the Asokore Mampong Municipality of the Ashanti Region have been left homeless after a fire destroyed several makeshift structures in the community.

The fire broke out in the early hours of Thursday, August 27, 2026, and quickly spread through the densely populated settlement, destroying homes and personal belongings worth thousands of Ghana cedis.

Personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) responded to the incident and succeeded in containing the blaze at about 7:13 a.m., preventing it from spreading to nearby structures.

According to the Fire Service, the congested nature of the settlement made it difficult for fire tenders to access the affected area, hampering efforts to bring the fire under control.

No casualties have so far been reported.

However, the affected residents have been left counting their losses, with many losing their homes, household items and other valuables in the fire.

Some residents were seen salvaging belongings from the remains of the burnt structures while others searched for temporary accommodation.

The cause of the fire remains unknown.

The Ghana National Fire Service has commenced investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding the outbreak.
