Turkish Foundation, Alpha Ridwan Foundation Support Kumasi Families For Eid

Hundreds of vulnerable families and selected public institutions in Kumasi have benefited from a major Eid al-Adha donation exercise organised by the Türkiye Diyanet Foundation in collaboration with the Alpha Ridwan Media Foundation.

The two organisations jointly donated and slaughtered 100 cattle valued at €50,000 to support needy Muslims and less privileged residents during the Eid festivities.

The exercise commenced on Wednesday, May 27, at the forecourt of Alpha Radio at Pankrono in Kumasi, where the first batch of 50 cows was slaughtered and distributed to widows, orphans, struggling families and some public institutions.

Excited residents gathered at the venue in long queues to receive free beef packages to mark the Islamic celebration.

According to the organisers, the remaining 50 cattle would be processed and distributed within the next 24 hours. Twenty cattle were expected to be slaughtered at Atwima Koforidua, while the remaining 30 would be processed at Ahwiaa.

Speaking to journalists during the exercise, Sheikh Mohammed Ridwan Kudi Bawasaba, Chief Executive Officer of Alpha Radio and the Alpha Ridwan Media Foundation, said the initiative was aimed at putting smiles on the faces of vulnerable people during the Eid season.

He explained that the entire project was funded through voluntary donations from individuals who wanted to support the less privileged.

Sheikh Ridwan, who is also the Chief Imam of Atwima Koforidua and Chairman of the Ashanti Regional Zongo Peace and Reconciliation Committee, urged Ghanaians to continue promoting peace, love and unity regardless of religious or ethnic differences.

According to him, maintaining the peace and harmony currently prevailing in the country should remain the collective responsibility of all citizens.

Eid al-Adha, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, commemorates Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son in obedience to Allah before a ram was provided as a substitute.

As part of the celebration, Muslims slaughter animals and share the meat with relatives, neighbours and the needy as a symbol of sacrifice, compassion and generosity.

Some beneficiaries expressed appreciation to Sheikh Ridwan and the Türkiye Diyanet Foundation for the support and prayed for Allah’s blessings upon the donors.
