Parliament’s Defence and Interior Committee Mourns Helicopter Crash Victims

The Parliamentary Select Committee on Defence and Interior has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic military helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight prominent Ghanaians, including the Minister of Defence, Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah.
The fatal crash occurred on August 6, 2025, in the Adansi–Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region, killing three service personnel and four other distinguished figures alongside Dr. Boamah.
In a statement signed by Committee Chairman, James Agalga, Parliament listed the victims as:

Dr. Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress
Mr. Samuel Aboagye, Deputy Director-General of NADMO
Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala
Flying Officer Manaen Twum-Ampadu
Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah
Mr. Agalga described the incident as a blow to the nation’s military and security leadership, stressing that the Committee stands in solidarity with the bereaved families, the Government, Parliament, and the Ghana Armed Forces during this “solemn time.”
The statement commended the Ghana Armed Forces for swiftly initiating a multi-agency investigation to determine the cause of the crash. The Committee pledged to review the findings and make recommendations to improve aviation safety, operational protocols, and emergency responses within Ghana’s security sector.
As the country observes three days of national mourning with flags at half-mast, the Committee vowed to honour the memories of the fallen by intensifying efforts to retool the Ghana Armed Forces for greater efficiency.
The tragic crash has drawn condolences from across the political divide, with leaders and citizens alike paying tribute to the victims’ service to the nation.
