Sheikh Condemns Houthi Attacks on Saudi

Islamic scholar Sheikh Mohammed Ridwan has condemned reported attacks on Saudi Arabia attributed to Yemen’s Houthi movement, warning that further military escalation could plunge the region into a prolonged crisis and endanger innocent civilians.

He has consequently called on the United Nations Security Council and the international community to urgently intervene through diplomatic channels to prevent further hostilities and restore peace.

Sheikh Ridwan, Chief Executive Officer of Alpha Radio and Chairman of the Ashanti Regional Muslim Peace Committee under the National Peace Council, said dialogue and restraint remained the surest ways to prevent the reported hostilities from escalating into a wider regional conflict.

In a press release, the Islamic scholar expressed concern about the impact of armed conflicts on civilians, particularly women and children, who often bear the greatest burden of violence.

He urged all parties to exercise restraint, protect civilian lives and pursue peaceful negotiations instead of intensifying military operations.

Sheikh Ridwan cited the 2025 Global Peace Index, published by the Sydney-based Institute for Economics and Peace, which recorded 59 active state-based conflicts worldwide—the highest number since the end of the Second World War.

The report also indicated that 78 countries were involved in conflicts beyond their borders in 2024.

According to him, the figures should serve as a wake-up call to world leaders to prevent the reported Saudi-Houthi hostilities from becoming another protracted regional crisis.

He said reports of strikes on Riyadh’s airport and other facilities made urgent efforts to protect civilians and de-escalate tensions particularly important.

The Islamic scholar further stressed that Saudi Arabia occupies a special place in the hearts of Muslims worldwide because it hosts Islam’s two holiest mosques in Makkah and Madinah.

He said the security of the Kingdom was therefore a matter of significant concern to Muslims across the globe.

Sheikh Ridwan also appealed to Saudi Arabia’s international partners, particularly Pakistan and Türkiye, to support diplomatic initiatives and avoid actions that could widen the conflict.

“Military escalation will deepen suffering and make a peaceful settlement harder to achieve. The international community must act urgently to protect civilians, restore calm and create space for meaningful dialogue,” he said.

He called on all parties to respect international law and resolve their differences through peaceful means, stressing that diplomacy must take precedence over further military confrontation.
