Ashanti GJA Opens Awards Entrie

The Ashanti Regional Secretariat of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has opened entries for the 2025 Ashanti Regional GJA Excellence Awards.

The awards are aimed at recognising journalists and media practitioners whose outstanding works have contributed to the development of the Ashanti Region and the country.

The theme for this year’s awards is “Celebrating Excellence, Championing Credibility: Journalism in the Age of AI.”

The organisers are inviting media practitioners in the region to submit their best published or broadcast works for consideration.

The competition covers works published or broadcast between January 1 and December 31, 2025.

However, members of the Ashanti Regional Executive, the Awards Committee and the Awards Jury are barred from participating in the competition.

Applicants are permitted to contest in a maximum of two award divisions and can submit not more than two works for each division.

A single work cannot be entered in more than one category.

The first division comprises beat awards covering Sports, Education, Investigative Journalism, Photojournalism, Arts and Entertainment, Business and Economy, Environment, Science and Climate, Health, Crime and Court, Agriculture, and Community Impact Journalism.

The second division covers Best Feature, Best Columnist and Best Documentary.

A special Kofi Badu Veteran Award has also been introduced to honour veteran journalists who have made significant contributions to the profession.

The award, named after Kofi Badu, Chief of Staff to the Asantehene, is also expected to strengthen the relationship between the Asantehene and the media in the Ashanti Region.

The organisers said the Awards Committee reserves the right not to present an award in any category where entries fail to meet the required standard.

The Committee and the Awards Jury will jointly determine the Ashanti Regional Journalist of the Year.

Applicants are required to submit clear and original copies of their works, together with a recent passport-sized photograph.

Entries must be titled “Ashanti GJA Excellence Awards 2025” and include the applicant’s full name, media organisation, telephone number and email address.

Applications should be submitted to ashantigjawards@gmail.com.

The deadline for submission is 5:00 p.m. on Friday, September 18, 2026.

The Ashanti Regional GJA said the awards reaffirm its commitment to promoting ethical journalism, professionalism, press freedom and impactful journalism that contributes to the socio-economic development of the region and Ghana.
