Akoanso Set For Grand Yam Festival

The chiefs, elders and people of Akoanso in the Anomabu Traditional Area of the Mfantseman Municipality in the Central Region are set to celebrate this year’s Annual Yam Festival, known as Eguadoto, in grand style.

The colourful traditional festival is scheduled to take place on Saturday, August 22, 2026, at the Akoanso Chiefs Palace and is expected to bring together members of the Anona Royal Family, traditional leaders, residents, indigenes and visitors from across the country.

The celebration is being organised under the able leadership of Her Royal Highness Nana Sakyi VIII, with support from the Anona Ebusua Obaatan and other elders of the royal family.

The festival is expected to provide an important platform for the people of Akoanso to celebrate their cultural identity, traditions and heritage while strengthening unity among members of the community.

As part of the celebration, the chiefs and elders are expected to use the occasion to highlight the historical and cultural significance of the yam festival to the people, particularly the role of traditional festivals in preserving indigenous customs for future generations.

The annual event is also expected to attract family members and well-wishers of the Anona Royal Family, as well as friends of the community who wish to witness the rich cultural displays associated with the festival.

The organisers have therefore extended an open invitation to all indigenes, residents, families, traditional authorities and the general public to join the people of Akoanso for the 2026 Eguadoto celebration.

They said the participation of the public would contribute to making the festival a memorable occasion while demonstrating collective support for the preservation and promotion of Ghanaian culture and traditional values.

The organisers further encouraged indigenes living outside Akoanso to return home and participate in the celebration as a way of reconnecting with their roots and contributing to the development of the community.

The Akoanso 2026 Yam Festival is therefore expected to combine tradition, culture, family reunion and community bonding as the people come together to celebrate their heritage under the leadership of the chiefs and elders.
