22-Year-Old Man Jailed 10 Years for Robbery

A 22-year-old man, Christian Owusu, has been sentenced to a minimum of 10 years in prison with hard labour for robbing a woman in Kumasi.

The Ashanti Central District Police Command secured the conviction at the Atasemanso Circuit Court on Friday, August 14, 2026, following a robbery incident reported on July 21.

According to the police, the victim was heading towards Konkromase Township at about 12:21 p.m. on July 21 when she was allegedly threatened and robbed of her handbag.

The handbag, the police said, contained cash and other personal belongings.

Following a complaint lodged by the victim, the police commenced investigations into the incident.

Their efforts led to the arrest of Owusu on August 4, 2026.

He was subsequently arraigned before the Atasemanso Circuit Court on August 7, where the case was presided over by His Lordship Kwaku Baah Frimpong.

Owusu was charged with robbery and pleaded guilty when the charge was read to him.

The court consequently convicted him on his own plea.

Before the court pronounced the sentence, Owusu pleaded for forgiveness.

However, after considering his plea, the court sentenced him to a minimum of 10 years’ imprisonment with hard labour.

He was subsequently handed over to the authorities of the Kumasi Central Prisons to begin serving his sentence.
