Islamic Cleric Bags Master’s Degree In Peace, Security

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Alpha Radio, Sheikh Mohammed Ridwan, has graduated with a Master’s degree in Conflict, Peace and Security from the prestigious Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC).

Sheikh Ridwan, who is also an Islamic cleric and Chairman of the ZQNGO Peace and Reconciliation Committee in the Ashanti Region, was among graduates who received their certificates at a ceremony held at the KAIPTC Teshie Campus in Accra.

The achievement marks another milestone in the academic journey of the Islamic scholar, whose first degree was in Arabic from a university in Libya.
Despite coming from an Arabic academic background, Sheikh Ridwan, through determination, resilience and hard work, successfully completed the intensive one-year master’s programme.

Speaking to the media after the graduation ceremony, Sheikh Ridwan expressed appreciation to his course mates, including politician and former diplomat Mike Oquaye Jnr, senior security officials, lawyers and other professionals, for their support and encouragement throughout the programme.
He admitted that the programme was challenging, particularly due to his limited proficiency in the English language, but said his commitment and reliance on Allah helped him overcome the difficulties.
Sheikh Ridwan encouraged Imams and Islamic clerics across the country to expand their knowledge beyond Arabic studies and take advantage of professional courses in peace, conflict and security.

He noted that such training would better equip religious leaders with the skills needed to contribute meaningfully to conflict prevention, peacebuilding and the resolution of disputes in their communities and the nation as a whole.
