Police Arrest Farmer Over Brutal Attack on Suspected Thief

A 30-year-old ginger farmer, identified as Francis, has been arrested by the Toase Police in the Ashanti Region for allegedly severing the hand of a 19-year-old suspected thief at Atwima Trabuom in the Atwima Kwanwoma District.
The incident is said to have occurred in the early hours of Friday, March 21, 2026, at about 2:00 a.m., when the victim allegedly attempted to steal ginger from a farm in the area.
Reports indicate that the suspect sustained severe injuries during the incident, resulting in the amputation of his right hand.
According to the Unit Committee Chairman, Kwadwo Amankwa, the young man had left home on Friday night but returned in the morning without his hand, raising alarm among residents.
He disclosed that the victim had gone to some ginger farms in the area around 2:00 a.m., where he was attacked.
Police were subsequently notified and arrested Francis as the prime suspect. He is currently in custody and assisting with investigations.
The injured victim is receiving medical attention, while investigations into the incident are ongoing.
