Higher Education Being Reshaped Globally – CSU Acting VC

Higher education across the world is being reshaped by artificial intelligence, digital transformation, interdisciplinary learning, entrepreneurship and research-driven innovation, the Acting Vice Chancellor of Christian Service University, Dr. Stephen Banahene, has observed.

According to him, the evolving global landscape means that success today depends on more than academic certificates, stressing that critical thinking, creativity, digital competence, ethical leadership, adaptability and global awareness are now key requirements for graduates.

Dr. Banahene made the remarks during his matriculation address to the January 2025/2026 cohort on Saturday,  February 21, 2026.

He explained that universities worldwide are adjusting to rapid technological and economic changes, and Christian Service University has not been left out. The institution, he said, has continuously redesigned its curricula to equip students with relevant skills to meet the demands of a competitive global environment.

“The world no longer rewards certificates alone,” he emphasized, urging students to position themselves for lifelong learning and innovation.

Touching on admissions, he disclosed that the university received a total of 1,948 applications for the 2025/2026 academic year, representing 97.4 percent of its admission target. Out of the figure, 1,148 applications were received during the first admission session in September 2025, while 800 were recorded in the second session.

As at the end of the first semester of the 2025/2026 academic year, the university’s total student population stands at 3,768. This comprises 3,473 undergraduate students (92 percent), 260 postgraduate students (7 percent), and 35 diploma students (1 percent).

He further revealed that the gender distribution is made up of 1,061 males (28.16 percent) and 2,707 females (71.84 percent), a situation he said calls for strategic resource redistribution to address gender-related needs. Management, he added, is working with the University Council to expand academic facilities and improve teaching and learning resources to accommodate the growing numbers.

Dr. Banahene also reminded the newly admitted students that their admission marks the beginning of a transformational journey in a community built on faith, scholarship, service and leadership.

He urged them to uphold integrity, avoid academic dishonesty and strive for excellence, noting that Ghana needs graduates who are competent, morally grounded and committed to national development.
