We Are One Family – Darkwah Urges Unity as NPP Holds Peaceful Primaries

William Darkwah, former National Coordinator of the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) Secretariat under the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo–led administration, has called on members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to remain united as the party conducts its internal elections.
Speaking at the polling centre at Twedie Technical Institute on Friday, Mr. Darkwah described the exercise as smooth, peaceful and well organised.
“I have been here this morning and everything is going on smoothly. We appreciate the presence of the Ghana Police Service. Though their numbers may seem many, it is better to be safe than sorry,” he said.
He commended the police for ensuring security and praised delegates for their discipline and orderly conduct throughout the process.
Mr. Darkwah, who is part of Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum’s campaign team, expressed confidence that the former Education Minister would emerge victorious due to his track record and vision.
“My expectation is that Dr. Adutwum will become the flagbearer because of the good work he did as Education Minister and the clear vision he has for the country and the party,” he stated.
According to him, many delegates are enthusiastic about Dr. Adutwum’s candidature.
“I have spoken to several delegates, and they are excited about electing him as the flagbearer,” he added.
He further noted that Dr. Adutwum’s campaign style positions him as a unifier who can bring all factions of the party together.
“When Dr. Adutwum is elected, it will be easy for him to consolidate the party’s base and unite everyone because he did not speak against any of the other aspirants during the campaign,” he explained.
Mr. Darkwah emphasised that the primaries are an internal party exercise and urged members to see themselves as one family.
“This is an in-house contest. We are one family. There may be misunderstandings along the way, but after the process, the Elephant family will come together as one,” he said.
He stressed that the ultimate political battle is not within the NPP but against the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC).
“The bigger battle is not among ourselves; it is against the NDC, which is currently in power,” he noted.
Mr. Darkwah expressed confidence that the party would unite behind the eventual winner of the primaries to reclaim power and put the country back on the right path.
He concluded by stating that the New Patriotic Party remains the political party capable of transforming Ghana’s fortunes.
