KNMTC Rolls Out Major Infrastructure Expansion as 482 Students Matriculate

The Kumasi Nursing and Midwifery Training College (KNMTC) has launched an ambitious infrastructural expansion agenda as it matriculated 482 new students for the 2025/2026 academic year.

The new intake includes 326 Registered General Nursing students—46 males and 280 females—and 156 Registered Midwifery students.

Speaking at the matriculation ceremony, which coincided with the College’s Homecoming and Fundraising event, Principal Dr. David Benjamin Sampson said the expansion drive forms part of preparations ahead of the College’s 70th anniversary next year. He noted that the institution must modernise and improve its facilities to meet contemporary training standards.

Dr. Sampson congratulated the matriculants for securing admission into one of Ghana’s premier health training institutions. He reminded them that their admission marked the beginning of a demanding academic and professional journey and urged them to uphold the responsibilities and values associated with the College.

He commended staff and management for their sacrifices, dedication, and continued commitment to strengthening the College’s foundation and enhancing teaching and learning.

Dr. Sampson revealed that KNMTC has begun critical rehabilitation works on existing infrastructure, including classroom blocks, student hostels, lighting and wiring systems, and obsolete teaching equipment. He stressed that although the College was established 70 years ago, it has never undergone a full-scale refurbishment, making the current upgrade crucial.

Beyond the main campus at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, the Principal announced that the College is developing a new 5.3-hectare satellite campus at Atwima Nkoranza in the Atwima Kwanwoma District. Construction is ongoing on two modern seven-storey classroom blocks to accommodate future academic expansion.

Dr. Sampson further disclosed that through the Ghana Medical Trust Fund under the Mahama Care Initiative, KNMTC has been selected to run three specialised degree programmes: BSc Critical Care Nursing, BSc Cardiology Nursing, and BSc Endocrinology Nursing.

He appealed to corporate institutions, philanthropists, NGOs, foundations, business leaders, and alumni groups to support the College’s signature development projects and contribute towards building a lasting legacy.
