Kotoko Fight Back to Share Spoils With Medeama in Thrilling League Encounter

Asante Kotoko produced a spirited second-half performance to hold Medeama SC to a 2–2 draw in a pulsating Ghana Premier League Week 12 clash at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Sunday.
The Porcupine Warriors, who went into the game hoping to close the gap at the top, were stunned early as Medeama seized control of proceedings from the blast of the whistle. Their dominance paid off almost immediately when Derrick Fordjour fired home the opening goal in the 5th minute, leaving the home fans shell-shocked.
The Tarkwa-based side continued to press and were soon rewarded again. Former Kotoko midfielder Mubarik Yusuf expertly converted a penalty after the referee pointed to the spot, doubling the lead and silencing the stadium. Medeama maintained their composure and tactical discipline to end the first half firmly in control.
Kotoko, however, returned from the break with renewed urgency and purpose. Coach’s halftime instructions appeared to have worked magic as the home side took charge of the midfield, with Inussh Adams dazzling on the right flank and injecting life into Kotoko’s attack.
Their relentless pressure finally paid off in the 69th minute when Peter Amidu Acquah unleashed a delightful finish to pull one back, sending the fans roaring in renewed hope. Buoyed by the goal, Kotoko continued to push forward in search of the equaliser.
Their efforts were rewarded late in the game as captain Ndongani Samba Gilbani rose highest to connect a powerful header into the net in the 85th minute, completing Kotoko’s comeback and turning the stadium into a cauldron of noise.
The hosts pressed fiercely for a winning goal in the dying moments, but Medeama’s resolute backline held firm to secure a point.
With the draw, Kotoko now sit 6th on the league table with 21 points, while Medeama maintain second place with 23 points, keeping the title race tightly contested.
Both sides will now shift focus to their next fixtures, with Kotoko hoping to build on their fighting spirit and Medeama aiming to regain winning momentum.
