OKESS PTA Donates GH₵100k Mono Desks To Ease Classroom Pressure

The Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) of Osei Tweretwie Senior High School (OKESS) in Kumasi has donated 500 mono desks valued at GH₵100,000.00 to the school to help address the severe furniture shortage affecting teaching and learning.

The donation was presented on Friday, November 29, by the PTA’s Deputy Chairman, Hon. Nana Osei Tutu — former Assembly Member for the Atwima Yabi Electoral Area and Otumfuo Sikakua Nifahene.

He explained that the gesture was in direct response to an appeal from school authorities to help fix the furniture deficit and improve students’ learning conditions.

According to him, the PTA has consistently supported the school through various interventions, including the repair of broken furniture and other logistical contributions.

Receiving the desks, the Headmaster, Mr. Frederick Keelson- Aikins, expressed deep appreciation to the PTA for what he described as a timely intervention.

“On behalf of the Board of Governors, management, teachers, and students, I want to thank the PTA for this wonderful support. Our classrooms are almost empty, and the furniture deficit is huge. The way students sit to learn is even shameful to talk about. But this donation will go a long way to improve teaching and learning,” he said.

He revealed that the school currently has over 2,000 Form One students and more than 1,500 Form Three students, a situation that has overstretched existing facilities.

Mr. Keelson further appealed to old students, parents, and benevolent individuals to support the school, noting that the challenges extend beyond desks.

“We also have serious issues with beds in the dormitories. Some students are sleeping on the floor. Government is doing a lot, but the burden is huge. We need every stakeholder to come on board,” he added.

The Girls’ Prefect, Armah Grace Naa Akweley, also expressed gratitude to the PTA on behalf of the student body and appealed to old students and corporate institutions to support the school in resolving the remaining challenges.
