Clashes Erupt Between Soldiers and Residents at Manso Nyankomase — Five Injured
Tension has gripped Manso Nyankomase in the Amansei South District of the Ashanti Region following violent confrontations between residents and military personnel during a mining-related operation.
The incident, which occurred on Monday, October 13, 2025, left five people injured and sparked widespread anger in the community.
According to eyewitness accounts, armed soldiers reportedly stormed the town to carry out a reclamation exercise on a disputed mining concession. However, their arrival was fiercely resisted by residents, who claimed they were not informed about the operation beforehand.
“We were not told anything. They just came in with force, attacking people without explanation,” one resident told reporters.
In protest, scores of residents took to the streets on Tuesday, setting tyres ablaze and chanting war songs to express their outrage over what they described as military brutality. Their action brought business and transport activities in the area to a halt for several hours.
Five residents who sustained injuries during the melee were rushed to nearby health facilities for medical attention.
As of press time, neither the military command nor district authorities had issued any official statement on the matter.
Meanwhile, residents say they will not back down until justice is served and those responsible for the assault are held accountable.
