Seven Perish in Galamsey Pit Disaster at Kasotie

Tragedy struck the Kasotie community in the Atwima Mponua District on Wednesday evening when an illegal mining pit collapsed, killing seven people on the spot.
The incident, which occurred around 6:00 p.m., involved about fifteen individuals who had gone on an illegal mining expedition. Ten others survived but sustained various degrees of injuries and are currently receiving treatment at the Mpasaaso Government Hospital.
Officials from the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), supported by security personnel, swiftly moved to the scene to conduct search and rescue operations. Efforts are still underway to ensure that no one remains trapped beneath the debris.
The community has been thrown into shock and grief, as distraught families and residents keep vigil near the site, hoping for word on their missing relatives.
The authorities have assured that investigations will be carried out to establish the exact cause of the pit’s collapse.
