Nkawie Police Arrest Four Fake Soldiers for Robbing Illegal Miners at Amadaa

The Nkawie Police Command has arrested four men posing as military officers after they allegedly robbed a group of illegal miners at Amadaa in the Atwima Mponua District of the Ashanti Region.
The suspects, who were picked up on Wednesday, September 3, were found with two AK-47 rifles, handcuffs, a military knife, and an undisclosed amount of cash believed to have been stolen from the miners.
According to police sources, the men — including two Chinese nationals and three Ghanaians — held the victims hostage during the robbery.
Investigations revealed that a man identified as Simon, who is also involved in illegal mining, allegedly masterminded the operation. Simon is said to have conspired with the fake soldiers to rob his fellow miners, including the Chinese nationals. Police say he has a history of such schemes, where he works with miners and later tips off fake soldiers to ambush and rob them.
A police source explained that Simon initially posed as an informant, alerting the authorities about the robbery. “He tried to make it look like he knew nothing about the incident. He even pleaded for the suspects when they were arrested. But we later gathered intelligence that he planned the robbery with them. Unfortunately, he escaped before we could apprehend him,” the source revealed.
The case has since been transferred to the Ashanti Regional Police Command, given the involvement of foreign nationals. Meanwhile, residents of Amadaa confirm that the miners, including the suspects and their victims, are based in the community.
Police say efforts are underway to track down Simon, who is currently on the run.
