Military Helicopter Goes Missing En Route to Obuasi – Ghana Armed Forces Confirms

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has announced that a military helicopter belonging to the Ghana Air Force has gone missing after taking off from Accra on Wednesday morning, August 6, 2025.
The aircraft, identified as a Z9 helicopter, departed Accra at 9:12 a.m. and was headed to Obuasi when it suddenly went off radar. The military says efforts are currently underway to re-establish contact with the aircraft.
A total of eight people — three crew members and five passengers — were on board at the time of the incident.
In a statement signed by Captain Veronica Adzo Arhin, Acting Director General of Public Relations of the Ghana Navy, the GAF assured the public that it is taking all necessary steps to locate the helicopter and its occupants.
“All efforts are being made to establish contact,” the statement said, while noting that further details will be provided in due course.
The situation has drawn public concern, especially in light of separate reports of a possible crash in the Ashanti Region. The military, however, has not confirmed any such development.
Search and rescue operations are expected to intensify in the coming hours as authorities work to determine the fate of the aircraft and those on board.
