Tragedy! Teen, 14, Dies In Self-immolation
A 14-year-old final-year Junior High School (JHS) student has died after allegedly dousing herself with petrol and setting herself ablaze at Mpraeso Amanfrom in the Kwahu West Municipality of the Eastern Region, amid disturbing allegations of a pregnancy dispute involving a young man.
The deceased, identified as Keziah Mirekua, reportedly suffered severe burns in the incident, which occurred at about 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, October 11, 2026, at a school park in the community.
She was rushed to the Holy Family Hospital at Nkawkaw for emergency treatment and subsequently referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi, where she later died.
The circumstances surrounding the tragedy remain unclear, with members of her family giving conflicting accounts about whether the teenager was pregnant and what might have triggered the incident.
Pregnancy Claims
The deceased’s grandmother, Madam Christiana Nkansah, told Osofoba Enoch that the family had been informed that the incident might have been linked to allegations that Keziah was pregnant for a young man who allegedly denied responsibility for the unborn child.
According to her, the teenager made some disclosures while receiving treatment at the hospital before her death.

Family Divided
However, the deceased’s mother and sister have challenged the pregnancy claims, insisting that Keziah was not pregnant.

The two family members suspect that other circumstances might have contributed to the incident and are demanding a thorough police probe to unravel the mystery surrounding the schoolgirl’s death.
