South Media Caucus Honours Four Police Officers For Crime-Fighting Efforts
The Ashanti South Media Caucus has honoured four senior police officers for their outstanding contribution to peace, security and crime reduction in the Ashanti South jurisdiction and the wider Ashanti Region.
The officers honoured are DCOP Joseph Hammond Nyaaba, Ashanti South Regional Commander; ASP Martin Amoah Kpentey, Bekwai South District Police Commander; Chief Superintendent Richmond Bonsu, Bekwai Divisional Police Commander; and Superintendent Stephen Antwi, Regional Crime Officer, Ashanti South Regional Police Command.
The media caucus said the recognition was in appreciation of the officers’ professionalism, dedication and selfless service, which had contributed to maintaining law and order and improving security in the region.
Presenting the citations, President of the Ashanti South Media Caucus, Francis Owusu, popularly known in media circles as Barima Kwadwo (Bari-K), commended the officers for their commitment to fighting crime and maintaining peace.
He said the police had made significant strides in reducing criminal activities in the area and expressed the hope that the recognition would motivate the officers to continue working diligently in the interest of residents.
Police-Media Collaboration
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, DCOP Joseph Hammond Nyaaba thanked the media caucus for the recognition, describing it as a timely acknowledgement of the work being done by the police.
“This is a timely citation for all of us, and we want to say thank you to the Regional Media Caucus of the Ashanti South Region for recognising our hard work,” he said.
He noted that the relationship between the police and the media had been cordial, adding that their regular engagements and collaboration had contributed to peace and stability in the Ashanti South jurisdiction and the wider region.
According to DCOP Nyaaba, crime levels were relatively high when the command took over, but intensified police operations had since helped to bring the situation under control.
“When we took over, the crime level was a bit high, but with my men, we have fought the criminals and, as you can all testify, the jurisdiction and the entire Ashanti Region are safe,” he stated.
He said the jurisdiction was now relatively calm and warned criminals against entering the area to engage in criminal activities.
Expanded Operations
DCOP Nyaaba disclosed that the command had received approval from the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, to extend its operations beyond its immediate jurisdiction within the region where necessary.
He also commended journalists for helping to publicise the activities and achievements of the police, saying the media had played an important role in strengthening public confidence in the security agencies.
The Regional Commander described the citations as legacies that the beneficiaries would cherish even after retiring from the Ghana Police Service.
“Eventually, we shall all retire, and having these in our rooms, people can read them and witness what we came to do in the Ashanti South Command,” he said.
Galamsey Fight
The citation presented to DCOP Nyaaba praised his leadership, professionalism and commitment to maintaining law and order following the elevation of the Ashanti South Police Command to regional status.
It noted that the command had recorded significant successes in crime prevention, the arrest of criminal elements and the recovery of firearms, ammunition and other offensive weapons.
His efforts in strengthening intelligence-led policing and enhancing public confidence in the police were also recognised.
The media caucus further commended his role in the fight against illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey, saying the command’s operations had contributed to protecting water bodies, the environment and the livelihoods of residents.
The caucus said the recognition was intended to encourage the four officers to maintain their commitment to protecting lives and property and ensuring peace and security in the region.
