Newborn Baby Abandoned in Bush at Dechemso

An unidentified newborn baby has been rescued after being abandoned in a bush at Dechemso-Hafia in the Manhyia South Constituency of the Ashanti Region.
The infant was discovered by residents on the morning of Sunday, April 26, who promptly alerted authorities. The baby was subsequently rushed to the Manhyia Government Hospital for urgent medical care.
Police have since commenced investigations to track down the individual responsible for the act. They are calling on residents and the general public to provide any relevant information to aid in the arrest of the suspect.
Health officials are yet to confirm the condition of the baby.
Eyewitnesses say the child was found with several mosquito bites, raising concerns about the circumstances under which the baby was left.
The incident has heightened concerns over the increasing cases of newborns being abandoned in unsafe locations such as bushes, refuse dumps, and public toilets.
Assembly Member for the Dechemso Electoral Area, Ahenkan Baako, who confirmed the incident, condemned the act and urged mothers facing challenges to seek support instead of abandoning their babies. He also called on security agencies to intensify efforts to curb the worrying trend and bring perpetrators to justice.
