Police Hunt Killers Of Berekum Chelsea Player

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has launched a manhunt for armed robbers who shot and killed a footballer with Berekum Chelsea during a deadly highway attack at Ahyiresu in the Nyinahin District.
The victim, Dominic Frimpong, was among about 30 players and officials of the club travelling in a VIP bus from Samreboi to Berekum when six armed men ambushed them on the Ahyiresu-Kwame Dwumor Sreso (KDS) road at about 10:30 pm on Sunday, April 12, 2026.
Police said the robbers, three of whom were wielding pump-action guns, opened fire on the vehicle, forcing the driver to veer off the road into a nearby bush while attempting to escape.
Frimpong sustained gunshot wounds during the attack and was rushed to the Bibiani Government Hospital, where he later died while receiving treatment.
In the course of the robbery, the assailants also made away with GH¢4,500.00 belonging to one of the passengers, George Owusu Afriyie, 52.
Police patrol teams who responded to distress calls retrieved two spent BB cartridges from the scene to aid investigations.
The Regional Police Command has since deployed additional personnel and crime scene experts to the area as efforts intensify to track down the suspects.
Police have assured the public that the perpetrators will be arrested and brought to justice, urging residents to remain calm and cooperate with ongoing investigations.
