Police Gun Down Suspect In Foiled Highway Robbery

The Ghana Police Service has shot and killed a suspected armed robber during a special operation that foiled a planned attack on the Ejura–Nkoranza Highway.
The operation was carried out on April 9, 2026, near Mimenaso No. 2 in the Ejura-Sekyedumase Municipality after police picked up intelligence about a six-member gang planning to ambush and rob commuters.
According to police sources, the gang was led by Mahamadu Fuseini, popularly known as “Shaini.”
An operational team moved to a nearby bush where the suspects were reportedly hiding in preparation for the attack. However, upon noticing the approaching team, the suspects mistook them for potential victims and opened fire.
Police returned fire, killing one of the suspects instantly. The rest of the gang members, including the alleged leader, managed to escape into the bush.
Items retrieved from the scene included a pump-action gun loaded with four live cartridges, two spent cartridges, and three assorted keypad mobile phones. Two additional live cartridges were also found in the pocket of the deceased suspect, along with a talisman tied around his waist.
The body of the deceased has been deposited at the Atebubu Government Hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy.
Police say a manhunt is underway to arrest the remaining suspects.
