Afful Nkwanta Fire Disaster Displaces Dozens

Dozens of residents at Afful Nkwanta, a slum community in the Kumasi Metropolis of the Ashanti Region, have been rendered homeless after a fierce fire outbreak destroyed several makeshift structures in the area.

The incident occurred in the early hours of the morning, when the fire swept through the densely populated settlement, burning down wooden structures occupied by scrap dealers and head porters.

The rapid spread of the fire was attributed to the congested layout of the area, which made it difficult for emergency responders to gain access and control the situation in time.

Although no casualties were recorded, victims lost their personal belongings and properties, leaving many in distress.

One of the affected residents, Mahammud Bawah Zakaria, expressed concern over the recurring nature of such incidents, noting that the unplanned arrangement of structures in the area continues to pose a major risk.

The cause of the fire is yet to be determined, with residents giving conflicting accounts, including a possible gas explosion or deliberate act.

Meanwhile, affected residents have begun clearing the debris as they attempt to rebuild their lives.

The incident adds to a series of recent fire outbreaks in similar communities, raising concerns about safety and living conditions in such areas.
