Two Jailed 25 Years Each For Armed Robbery In Bekwai

The Bekwai Circuit Court in the Ashanti Region has sentenced two young men to 25 years’ imprisonment each for their involvement in an armed robbery attack.
The convicts, Justice Oduro, also known as Akwasi Ketewa, a 23-year-old okada rider, and George Tweneboah, also known as Kwame, a 23-year-old driver, were found guilty of conspiracy to commit robbery and robbery, contrary to Sections 23(1) and 149 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).
A third suspect, identified as Kwaku T.T., is currently on the run.
Delivering judgment, the presiding judge, His Honour Isaac Appiatu, held that the prosecution proved its case beyond reasonable doubt.
Prosecutor ASP Lloyd Bedu told the court that the convicts, together with their accomplice, planned and executed the robbery on August 18, 2025.
He said the victims were attacked and threatened before their valuables were forcibly taken.
Items stolen included two radio sets valued at GHS 180.00, a Samsung mobile phone valued at GHS 280.00, an Itel mobile phone also valued at GHS 280.00, a torchlight worth GHS 100.00, and cash amounting to GHS 80.00.
The robbers further took away a gold detector machine valued at GHS 13,000.00 and three pounds of gold estimated at GHS 24,400.00, bringing the total value of stolen items to GHS 38,320.00.
The victims were identified as Agyemang Charles, Kwabena Owusu, Kwabena Dacosta, Kwaku Osei, Appiah Paul, and Musah Yussif.
The court underscored the need to impose a deterrent sentence, particularly in mining areas where such crimes are becoming prevalent.
Meanwhile, the Ashanti South Police Command has assured the public that efforts are underway to arrest the third suspect to face justice.
